Welcome to the BC/Yukon Regional Website
I am very happy to welcome you to the BC and Yukon region of Junior Chamber International Canada.
JCI, commonly referred to as "Jaycees" was started in 1915 in St. Louis, Missouri by Henry Giessenbier Jr. Over our 97 year history, JCI has grown into a worldwide leadership development organization of men and women aged 18-40, in 115 countries around the world. Check out our World Leader Members page under "Who we Are" to see a list of Local and International leaders who have turned their experience in JCI into an extraodinary world impact.
As you can see above, our Mission is "To provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change."
That is what our chapters do; create positive change in the communities that we reside. As a whole, BC region chapters combine to raise an average of $70,000 - $75,000 per year for deserving charities in the cities where there are existing chapters/units. We are currently in Abbotsford, Cranbrook, Vancouver, 2 in Kelowna, Penticton, Prince George and Vernon.
The BC and Yukon region of JCI Canada is regarded as the strongest and most active region in the country. For 2011 the region held considerable influence with the National Board; National President Paul Clissold (Kelowna), National Vice-President Joey Hoechsmann (Kootenay), General Legal Counsel David Miles (Kelowna) and BC/Yukon President Jason Ranchoux (Kelowna). Two other members of the National Board have a strong past as BC/Yukon members as well: Executive Vice President Jennifer (Wills) Derzaph (formerly Okanagan) and Western Region President Erin Radke-Hall (formerly Prince George).
The commitment of the people above are a testament to how strong our region is.
